SPECIAL NOTE FOR ALL WHO ARE PREPARING TO FILE YOUR 2007 TAXES
Educator Expense Adjustment to Income:
Teachers and other educators (including classroom aides, counselors, and principals) can deduct as much as $250 that they spent to purchase classroom supplies in 2007. The deduction for educator expenses can be claimed on Form 1040, line 23 or on the 1040A, line 16.
In addition to this credit, which is available to all educators - those taxpayers who itemize can take any additional classroom expenses as well as their association dues and personal educational expenses and itemize them under the "unreimbursed business expenses" category on their Schedule A.
Additionally, for tax purposes Full time dues paid during tax year 2007 were $521.40 and half time dues were $264.80.
