How is the Attendance Incentive Determined

The attendance incentive for Certificated personnel is determined according to District policy (DP354).

  • What absences count against the incentive:
    • According to the policy all sick leave (including family sick leave) and personal days count against the incentive. No other leave (including alternative, professional, district assignment, etc.) is counted.
  • How the amount is calculated:
    • A pool of money is created by taking 1/2% of the cost of the certificated salary schedule (currently about $1,000,000) and adding to that the average value of a "no pay" day (minus the cost of a substitute) multiplied by the number of "no pay"days taken. This is the total amount available to fund the incentive
    • Each employee who has 0 - 2 qualifying absences (rounded up) is assigned a point value by policy:
      • 0 = 5.5 point
      • 1 = 3.0 point
      • 2 = 1.5 point
    • Total points earned is divided into the money available to get a dollar value per point.
    • Each employee is then paid according to their point assignment.
  • The incentive amount varies from year to year for two reasons:
    • The amount of money available is based on 1/2% of the cost of the salary schedule and the number of "no pay" days taken hence the money available changes each year.
    • The number of people who qualify for the incentive changes based on how many absences the employees have.
