1. How much money do teachers get for the Teacher Legislative Allocation? <back>

The Utah Legislature funded the Teacher Classroom Supply line item at the same rate as last year (2010-11). Following is the legislated guideline for school districts to work with given the appropriation to their individual districts.

Teachers on salary schedule steps one through three teaching in grades kindergarten through six or preschool handicapped will receive $250.

Teachers on salary schedule steps one through three teaching in grades seven through twelve will receive $200.

Teachers on salary schedule steps four or higher teaching in grades kindergarten through six or preschool handicapped will receive $175.

Teachers on salary schedule steps four or higher teaching in grades seven through twelve will receive $150.

If the appropriation to the district is not sufficient to provide to each teacher the full amount shown above, teachers on salary schedule steps one through three shall receive the full amount allowed with the remaining monies apportioned to all other teachers.”

2. How is the Attendance Incentive Determined?    Revised 9/14/2009   <back>

The attendance incentive for Certificated personnel is determined according to District policy (DP354).

What absences count against the incentive:

According to the policy all sick leave (including family sick leave) and personal days count against the incentive.

No other leave (including alternative, bereavement, professional, district assignment, etc.) is counted.

How the amount is calculated:

·         A pool of money is created by taking the average value of a "no pay" day (minus the cost of a substitute) multiplied by the number of "no pay"days taken. This is the total amount available to fund the incentive

·         Each employee who has 0 - 2 qualifying absences (rounded up) is assigned a point value by policy:

·         0 = 5.5 point

·         1 = 3.0 point

·         2 = 1.5 point

Total points earned is divided into the money available to get a dollar value per point.

Each employee is then paid according to their point assignment.

The incentive amount varies from year to year for two reasons:

The number of people who qualify for the incentive changes based on how many absences the employees have.

3. When are teachers paid for their nine hours of Professional Development days?  <back>

The nine hours is now integrated into the salary schedule.

4. How much is the W.P.U. (Weighted Pupil Unit)?

     http://www.utahsfuture.org/why-support-public-schools.html

The value of the WPU increased from $2,577 to $2,816, an increase of $239 dollars, but this was not new money. It was accomplished by rolling a large amount of the “flexible allocation” line item, used to fund Social Security and retirement, into the WPU. It is important to note that two restricted programs, Special Education Add-on and Career & Technical Ed District Add-on, which are funded on a WPU basis, are being funded at the previous WPU value of $2,577.
